Much of Tymon’s stand-up material draws on his challenging childhood in East St. Louis, Illinois.
The well-received sets lead to his one-man show which premiered at Masquers Cafe in Los Angeles in 2000. That, in turn, lead to My East St. Louis, a book that is available as a paperback and an ebook. His stories cover the hilarious—and heartbreaking—realities of the ‘hood. It’s all on the page, from the impossible-to-swallow government peanut butter, the ridiculous outfits his mother dressed him in, the fearsome neighborhood bullies, and the mean old babysitter. His recollections are a celebration of life and a personal commentary on how oppression, spirituality, alcoholism, and poverty can shape a child’s worldview. Follow Tymon on Goodreads! |
